Sean Alward’s painting and sculpture explores the intersection of botany – geological materials – history – and economy. Time and space collapse in the raw stuff of the natural world and his art seeks to expand these forms through an archaeological-like exploration of visual clues and language. He received his MFA from the University of British Columbia and BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (exchange at Cooper Union, NYC). He has exhibited across Canada and in the U.S., most recently at the Art Gallery at Evergreen, Vacation Gallery NYC, the AHVA Gallery University of British Columbia, Surrey Art Gallery, Wil Aballe Art Projects, and the Nanaimo Art Gallery. He has published writing in Canadian Art, C Magazine, Border Crossings, and the Georgia Straight.
